The Plas Llanfair Story

The property is in an idyllic setting and incorporates traditional Welsh buildings with sympathetic restoration.

Small enclosures of land here are bordered by traditional dry stonewalling, native hedgerows and trees. There is a diverse range of species and habitats and we have run the smallholding with strict attention to this environmental sensitivity and within an organic system.
The land at Plas Llanfair is of environmental interest. Until recently Plas Llanfair was a member of the Soil Association and continues to uphold its values and principles with the management of approximately 7 acres. Small scale fruit growing provides ingredients for jams and chutneys.

Plas Llanfair has been part of the Welsh countryside conservation and protection scheme, Tir Gofal, and holds the Green Dragon Level 2 certification in recognition for effective environmental management. This standard is made up of five steps each incorporating the key elements of planning, Taking Action, Checking Progress and Reviewing Achievements to realise continual environmental improvement.

Cottage Construction

In 2006 conversion of the two redundant stone barns at the rear of the farmhouse began. It took almost two years to complete the buildings which are understood to date back to the 1750s or earlier. A high level of aesthetics and comfort is achieved by combining traditional building methods and materials including existing stone, slate and lime with new technology (underfloor heating).
Skilled local craftworkers and builders have been deployed throughout the process.

The land and gardens are a work in progress and are evolving through the seasons and years.

Thank you to all our guests who have shared in our enjoyment of the cottages and those of you who are about to do so.
